Should your district approve the creation of new charter schools?
"No"
Should the state give money to private schools through a voucher system?
"No"
Are standardized tests an accurate metric of student achievement?
"No"
How can the district ensure equal opportunities for high and low achieving students?
"Parents and teachers should work together to identify students that are in need of additional academic support as well as additional enrichment programs that enhance all students."
How should expulsion be used in the district?
"Practices such as positive behavior strategies should be used before expulsion is considered."
If a school is failing in your district, what steps should the school board take to help the students in that school?
"The board should implement a study to determine the causes of the failure. Parents, staff, administrators and members of the community should provide their input. Once all of the data is collected, a special committee should be created that reviews the necessary options for helping the students in the failing school, and begin implementation as soon as possible."
Do you support merit pay for teachers?
"No"
How should the district handle underperforming teachers?
"Set up a mentorship program for the underperforming teacher with a more experienced teacher in the district."
How would you work to improve community-school board relations?
"All school board meetings are open to the public and are televised on a local cable channel. The public is often invited to give their comments and suggestions via many channels. Perhaps an annual open-house could be held in which members of the community could meet with the school board members in person."
