Two seats on the Lewisville Independent School District board were up for general election on May 10, 2014. In the Place 6 race, Kristi Hassett won over challengers Mary Smith and Krista Stone. Tracy Scott Miller unseated incumbent Carol Kyer in the Place 7 race.[1]
About the district
Lewisville Independent School District is located in Denton County, Texas. The county seat of Denton County is Denton. The county's population was 662,614 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.[2]
Demographics
Denton County outperforms the rest of Texas in terms of higher education attainment, median income and poverty rate. The 2010 U.S. Census found that 40.3 percent of Denton County residents over 25 years old held undergraduate degrees compared to a 26.3 percent rate for the state of Texas. Denton County had a median income of $72,939 in 2010 compared to $51,563 for Texas. The poverty rate for Denton County was 8.5 percent in 2010, compared to a 17.4 percent rate for the rest of the state.[2]

Voter and candidate information
The Lewisville Board of Trustees consists of seven members. While members are elected to specific places on the ballot, they serve at large. They serve three-year terms. There was no primary election and a general election took place on May 10, 2014 for two seats. Two seats will be on the ballot in May 2015.[4]
A member of the board must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district. An individual seeking office must be a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the district for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.[5]
