Burfoot endorsement
Spruill reportedly drew criticism from City Treasurer Anthony Burfoot and former Ward 3 Council Member Anthony Burfoot for sending out a mailing saying Burfoot endorsed him. Both Spruill and his father, Del. Lionell Spruill (D), claimed Burfoot endorsed the son during a meeting at Burfoot's house. "I've told him not to use my name. I'm not endorsing anybody," Burfoot said.[3]
