I am a progressive democrat running for congress, and my life story is one of overcoming adversity and pushing past obstacles. I came to the United States from Ethiopia with my parents at the age of 11 in 2002. I was born with muscular dystrophy and a speech impediment, which made it challenging for me to communicate and navigate the world around me. Despite these challenges, I persevered and overcame all odds to become the person I am today.

My mother worked tirelessly to raise me and my two sisters as a single parent, and I grew up as a middle child in a Christian Orthodox household. I graduated from Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas, in 2009, and went on to earn a degree in computer network systems from ITT Tech in 2011. Later, I received a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management from DeVry University in 2016.

Throughout my career, I have worked as a Test Technician Level 5 at Hewlett-Packard, a Technology Support Analyst for NEXT Financial Group, and as a driver for Uber and Lyft. Currently, I am a Contract Disaster Housing Inspector for DHS FEMA, traveling to states affected by natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey, Ian, and Nicole, just to name a few...

I am passionate about helping people, and my experiences have taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. As a progressive democrat running for congress, I believe that everyone deserves a fair shot at success, and I am committed to fighting for policies that will make that a reality..
  • My 1st key message: As a progressive democrat with a unique background, I am running for Congress to bring diversity and representation to our government. As an immigrant from Ethiopia, born with muscular dystrophy and a speech impediment, I understand the challenges that marginalized communities face, and I will be a voice for those who have been left behind.
  • My 2nd key message: In Congress, I will fight for progressive policies that will benefit all Americans, including Medicare For All, Reproductive Rights, Student Loan Forgiveness, Affordable Housing, Climate Change & G.N.D, Gun Reform, Police Reform, Free Colleges & Universities and much more. I believe in creating a more equitable society where everyone has access to the resources and support, they need to thrive.
  • My 3rd key message: If elected, I will work tirelessly to represent the interests of my constituents and fight for policies that benefit our district. I promise to prioritize transparency and accountability in government, to work towards reducing corruption and special interests in politics, and to always put the needs of our community first. I will be accessible and responsive to the needs of my constituents, and I will work to create a more sustainable future for our community and our planet. Together, we can create a brighter future For The People Of CA-18th District, The People Of The Great State Of California & All Americans.
I am deeply passionate about a number of areas of public policy. One of the most pressing issues facing our country today is income inequality, and I believe that it is imperative that we take bold action to address this issue. This includes policies such as raising the minimum wage, implementing progressive taxation, and strengthening labor protections.

In addition to income inequality, I am also deeply committed to fighting for healthcare reform. Healthcare is a basic human right, and it is unacceptable that so many Americans still lack access to quality, affordable healthcare. I believe that we need to move towards a single-payer healthcare system that ensures that every American has access to the care they need.
Another area of public policy that I am passionate about is environmental. Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing our planet, and we must take immediate action to address this crisis. This includes policies such as Green New Deal, by investing in renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and protecting our natural resources.
Finally, I am committed to fighting for social justice and equality for all. This includes policies such as criminal justice reform, immigration reform, and protecting the rights of marginalized communities. It is imperative that we work for a more sensible society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

I believe that government has a responsibility to serve and protect all people not just the wealthy and powerful!
There are 4 heroes I look up to, & they are the following people in order.

First & foremost, it's my beautiful & strong mother named Yamrot. Despite the odds against me due to my Muscular Dystrophy (MD), I was fortunate to have a mother who worked tirelessly to provide for our family & ensure that we had the best possible life. She also never gave up on me, even when everyone else did. She is the strongest, smartest, caring, & kindest woman, former-wife to my father, & the greatest mother that ever lived. My mother instilled in us the values of hard work, compassion, & empathy, & we learned to stand up for what we believe in, even in the face of adversity.

Second, Martin Luther King Jr. I look up to him because of his unwavering commitment to equality, justice, & civil rights. He led a peaceful movement that fought against racial segregation & discrimination. His famous speeches, "I Have a Dream" & "I've Been to the Mountaintop," continue to inspire generations to work towards a more just & equitable society.

Third, Barack H. Obama. I look up to him for his intelligence, his ability to inspire, & his commitment to making the world a better place. He broke barriers as the first African American president of the United States & worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all Americans. His efforts towards healthcare reform, climate change, & equal rights have made a significant impact on our society & will continue to do so for years to come.

Fourth, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I look up to her for beating the odds & winning her 2018 Primary Election over 20+ yrs veteran, BUT also her passion & her ability to keep fighting & bringing attention to important issues such as income inequality, climate change, & social justice. She is a fierce advocate for her voters & has proven to be a powerful force for change in the United States Congress. She is a trailblazer who has inspired many young people to get involved in politics & fight for a better future for all.
In my opinion, the most important characteristics or principles for an elected official are honesty, integrity, accountability, empathy, and a commitment to public service.

Firstly, an elected official should always be honest and transparent in their actions and decisions. They should be truthful with their constituents and never hide anything from the public. Integrity is also an important trait for an elected official as it shows that they have a strong moral compass and will always do what is right, even when it is not the easiest or most popular decision.

Accountability is also crucial for an elected official. They should take responsibility for their actions and be willing to face the consequences of their decisions. They should also be accountable to the people they serve and listen to their concerns and feedback.

Empathy is another important characteristic for an elected official as it shows that they can understand and relate to the needs and struggles of their constituents. They should be able to put themselves in other people's shoes and make decisions that benefit the greater good, rather than just themselves or a select few.

Lastly, a commitment to public service is crucial for an elected official. They should view their role as a public servant and work towards improving the lives of those they serve. This means putting the needs of the people first and working towards policies that benefit the community as a whole, rather than just their own personal or political agenda.

Ultimately though, I believe that an elected official who embodies these characteristics and principles will be able to serve their constituents effectively and be a positive force for change in their community and beyond.
One of the most important qualities is the ability to listen to people and empathize with their concerns. It's crucial to understand the needs and priorities of your constituents in order to effectively represent them. Another key quality is integrity - being honest, transparent, and accountable to the people you serve.

In addition to these, having strong communication and leadership skills is also important. An effective officeholder should be able to articulate their vision and goals clearly and work collaboratively with others to achieve them. They should also be able to make tough decisions when necessary and have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

Finally, a successful officeholder must be committed to public service and genuinely care about the well-being of their constituents. They should prioritize the needs of the community over their own personal interests or political gain.

Overall, possessing these qualities can help an individual become a successful officeholder, but it's important to continually work on improving and developing them throughout their term in office.
I believe that the core responsibility for someone elected to office is to serve their constituents and the community they represent. It's essential that they prioritize the needs of the people over their personal interests or political party. Elected officials should always work towards creating a better society for their constituents, fighting for policies that promote equality, justice, and safety.

Another crucial responsibility for elected officials is to stay true to their principles, even if it means going against their political party. They should not be afraid to speak up against issues they disagree with, whether it's their party's stance or not. They should always be ready to take a stand for what they believe is right, regardless of the consequences.

Furthermore, elected officials must be accessible and accountable to their constituents. They should keep their constituents informed about their activities and policies, and engage in frequent communication to address their concerns. It's also important to be transparent and honest about their actions, especially when it comes to campaign finance, lobbying, and conflicts of interest.

Overall, elected officials must prioritize serving their constituents, standing up for their beliefs, and being accountable and transparent to the people they represent. By doing so, they can create a more effective and representative government that truly serves the people.
The 1st historical event that I remember happening in my lifetime is the 2008 presidential election, which took place when I was 18 years old. It was a significant moment for me, as it was the 1st time I had paid close attention to politics & the electoral process.

As the election approached, I found myself increasingly invested in the outcome. I was impressed with Barack Obama's message of hope & change, & I was excited at the prospect of seeing America's 1st black president elected to office winning the election over a man I had a great deal of respect for John McCain, who I viewed as a true American hero and an honorable politician.

On election night, I was glued to the television as the results started to come in. It was a long & suspenseful night, but when the news finally broke that Obama had won the election, I was filled with a sense of pride & hope for the future. I was not yet a U.S. citizen & therefore unable to vote in the election but as soon as I became a U.S. Citizen I immediately registered to vote and voted for Obama in 2012 happily..

Looking back on that historic election now, I am struck by how much has changed in the years since. Obama's presidency was marked by both triumphs & challenges, & the political landscape of our country has undergone significant shifts in the years since he was elected. But I remain grateful for the experience of witnessing that historic moment, & for the lessons that it taught me about the importance of power of hope & optimism in times of uncertainty.

The 2008 presidential election was a formative experience for me & a reminder of the potential for change that exists in our society. While there is still much work to be done to address the systemic issues & inequalities that exist in our country, I am hopeful that the legacy of Obama's presidency & the many other moments of progress & change that have occurred in the years since will continue to inspire future generations to work towards a better world.
My very first job was as an I.T. Lab Tech in a Student Work Program at ITT Tech, where I worked for the minimum wage for a full year during my last year of study for my associate degree. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as it provided me with the opportunity to help students, faculty, and staff with their technical needs while I was still in college. This experience allowed me to develop new skills while also sharpening my existing technical abilities.

I found it rewarding to help others overcome their technical challenges, and I enjoyed working with a diverse group of people. It was also a great way to learn time management skills, as I had to balance my studies with my part-time job. The job taught me the importance of prioritizing my tasks and managing my time effectively, which has helped me in my career and personal life.

Overall, my first job as an I.T. Lab Tech was a valuable experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally. I am grateful for the opportunity to have had this job, and it gave me a great foundation for my future career in technology.
My favorite book is "A Promised Land" by Barack Obama. I found it to be an incredibly insightful and inspiring read. The book chronicles Obama's early life, his political career, and his first term as President of the United States.

One of the things I appreciate most about the book is how honest and candid Obama is about his experiences, both the highs and the lows. He doesn't shy away from discussing the challenges he faced, including the difficulties of passing healthcare reform and the criticisms he received from some quarters. At the same time, he shares moments of triumph, such as the passage of the Affordable Care Act and the successful operation to capture Osama Bin Laden.

I think "A Promised Land" is an excellent book for anyone interested in politics, leadership, or history. Obama's writing style is engaging and accessible, and his insights into the challenges of leadership are both compelling and thought-provoking. Even if you don't agree with all of Obama's policies or decisions, I think there is a lot to learn from his experiences and his approach to leadership.
If I could be any fictional character, I would want to be Mike Ross from the TV series "Suits". I am drawn to his photographic memory and wish I had such a remarkable ability. It would make my life so much easier to recall information effortlessly and accurately, without the need to constantly study or review. Mike's character is also intelligent, resourceful, and quick on his feet, making him an exceptional lawyer despite not having a law degree. I admire his ability to think creatively and outside the box, finding solutions to complex problems. Additionally, he has a strong sense of integrity and loyalty to his friends and colleagues, which is a quality that I value in myself and others. Overall, being able to embody the traits of a successful and intelligent character like Mike Ross would be an exciting experience, and I believe it could inspire me to develop those qualities in myself.

I'm A Man On A Mission By Oh the Larceny
One thing that has been a major struggle for me in my life is living with muscular dystrophy and a speech impediment called hypernasal speech. Muscular dystrophy is a progressive disease that weakens and degenerates muscles over time, making it difficult to perform everyday tasks that many take for granted. It can be a constant battle to maintain a level of independence, but I have learned to adapt and find alternative ways to accomplish things.

Hypernasal speech is another challenge that I have faced throughout my life. It is a speech disorder that affects the resonance of my voice, causing it to sound nasal and muffled. It can be frustrating when people have trouble understanding me or make assumptions about my intelligence based on the way I speak or walk. However, I have learned to communicate effectively by using different techniques such as speech therapy and other medical procedures.

Despite these challenges, I believe that they have helped shape me into the person I am today. They have taught me perseverance, resilience, and empathy towards others who face their own struggles. It has also inspired me to advocate for those who may not have a voice and to work towards creating a more inclusive society.
Sure, I'd be happy to share my thoughts on what makes the U.S. House of Representatives unique as an institution. One of the most notable qualities of the House is its size. With 435 members representing different districts across the country, it's one of the largest legislative bodies in the world. This size allows for a great diversity of perspectives and ideas to be represented in the House, and it can also make for lively and robust debates.

Another unique quality of the House is its focus on representation. Unlike the Senate, where each state gets two senators regardless of population size, the House is apportioned based on population, with each state getting a certain number of representatives based on its population. This means that states with larger populations have more representatives and therefore more say in the legislative process. It also means that the House is more directly representative of the American people as a whole.

The House also has some unique powers and responsibilities. For example, all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House, and the House has the power to impeach federal officials. These powers give the House a crucial role in the functioning of the government and make it a key player in shaping national policy.

Overall, I believe that the House of Representatives is a unique and important institution that plays a crucial role in American democracy. Its size, focus on representation, and unique powers all contribute to its distinct character and significance.
Yes, I believe it would be beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics, but I do not think it should be a requirement. There are certainly advantages to having lawmakers who understand how the political system works and have experience navigating the complexities of government. Experienced politicians may have a better understanding of how to get things done, how to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and how to advocate for their constituents effectively.

However, it's also important to recognize the value of fresh perspectives and new voices in Congress. Having someone new to Congress can bring a different set of experiences, ideas, and priorities to the table, which can help to foster innovation and change. Moreover, our democracy is founded on the idea that anyone can run for office and represent their community, regardless of their background or experience.

It's important that we encourage and support new voices in Congress, rather than pushing them aside or discouraging them because they lack experience. This applies to both parties, and we should be open to considering candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. At the same time, we should also recognize that experience can be a valuable asset and that lawmakers who have spent time in government or politics can bring valuable insights to the legislative process.
There are a few things I perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade.

1) Climate change is indeed a critical issue that the world is facing today. The increasing greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and other human activities are causing global temperatures to rise and weather patterns to change, which can have disastrous consequences. It's vital to take action to reduce carbon emissions, promote clean energy, and support climate mitigation and adaptation measures.

2) The loss of faith in the American electoral system is a concerning issue that undermines the democratic process. It's crucial to ensure fair and transparent elections and hold accountable those who spread false information and undermine the public's confidence in the electoral process. Encouraging voter participation, promoting media literacy, and strengthening cybersecurity are some of the measures that can help address this issue.

3) The potential for a second civil war in America is a serious concern. Political polarization, social unrest, and the erosion of trust in institutions are factors that contribute to this possibility. It's important to promote dialogue, respect, and understanding across political and social divides and to uphold the rule of law and democratic values.

4) Mass shootings, national debt, immigration, and border security are also significant challenges that require attention and action. Finding solutions to reduce gun violence, manage public finances, promote immigration policies that balance security and compassion, and enhance border security can help address these issues.

5) Finally, Russia and China pose significant threats to global stability, security, and prosperity. It's essential to promote international cooperation, diplomacy, and strategic alliances to address these challenges effectively.
Sure, I'd be happy to share my thoughts on the appropriate term length for representatives. Personally, I believe that two years is an appropriate length of time for representatives to serve.

On the one hand, two years is a relatively short period of time, which means that representatives must be accountable to their constituents and responsive to their needs and concerns. In this sense, shorter terms can promote greater responsiveness and accountability in government, as representatives are forced to constantly engage with their constituents and demonstrate their value as public servants.

At the same time, however, two years is long enough for representatives to build relationships and expertise in their fields, as well as to pursue meaningful legislative initiatives. It strikes a balance between accountability and effectiveness, giving representatives enough time to make meaningful contributions to the legislative process without becoming too entrenched in their positions or out of touch with the needs of their constituents.

Of course, there are certainly arguments to be made for longer or shorter term lengths, depending on one's perspective and goals for representative government. But for me, the two-year term strikes a good balance between accountability and effectiveness, and I believe that it's an appropriate length of time for representatives to serve.
Yes, I am in favor of term limits for members of both chambers of Congress. I believe that term limits are important for ensuring that elected officials remain accountable to their constituents and do not become complacent in their positions. When politicians have been in office for many years, they can become more focused on their own interests and the interests of their party than the needs of the people they represent. This can lead to a lack of responsiveness to the concerns and priorities of voters, which can harm our democracy.

Furthermore, term limits can help to promote turnover and fresh ideas in Congress, which is important for maintaining a healthy democracy. If members of Congress stay in office for too long, they can become set in their ways and resistant to change. This can stifle innovation and progress, which can be detrimental to the country as a whole.

To put it simply, term limits ensure that elected officials remain accountable and responsive to the people they represent, and help to promote turnover and fresh ideas in Congress. It's important to note, however, that term limits alone are not a panacea for all of the problems in our political system. We also need to focus on campaign finance reform, gerrymandering, and other issues that contribute to the dysfunction in Congress.

Finally, I want to compare current members of Congress to employees who do not do their jobs but yet ask their employers, the American people, to renew their contract every two years in the House of Reps and every 6 in the Senate while having no accomplishments & having nothing to show for their entire terms. We should fire all current members of Congress who are not doing their jobs and replace them with fresh faces who are truly committed to serving the interests of their constituents. Term limits can help to ensure that this happens, and I believe they are an important tool for reforming our political system and promoting a healthy democracy.
Absolutely! There is one particular representative whom I admire and strive to model myself after, and that is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or AOC for short. Her story of overcoming obstacles to win against a 20+ year veteran inspired me to get more involved in politics, and it even inspired me to run for U.S. Congress myself, to take on and challenge a 32+ year veteran named Zoe Lofgren.

What I admire most about AOC is her fearlessness. She's not afraid of anyone, and she's a true fighter who never gives up when it comes to fighting for what's right. She's always bold and makes bold statements, and if anyone attacks her verbally or physically, she attacks them back ten times worse and ultimately destroys them. She's smart, intelligent, and strong, and I believe that these qualities are essential for anyone who wants to be an effective representative in Congress.

I'm already similar to AOC in some ways, but I hope to work with her one day soon, hopefully in the next Congress after my 2024 election victory. I believe that working with her would be an incredible learning opportunity, and I'm sure that I would gain a lot of knowledge and experience from this great fighter. Overall, I believe that AOC is a role model for all young people who are interested in politics and who want to make a difference in the world.
Sure, I'd be happy to share a touching story I've heard from a constituent. I had the privilege of meeting a woman who had gone through a lot of hardship in her life. She had lost her job during the recession and struggled to make ends meet, but she was determined to provide for her two young children. She eventually found work as a nurse's aide but was still barely making enough to pay for basic necessities like food and rent.

What was so inspiring about this woman was her unwavering dedication to her children's future. She made sure they had a safe place to live, even if it was small and cramped, and she worked tirelessly to make sure they had everything they needed for school. She was always putting their needs before her own and never once complained about the difficulties she faced.

Despite all the challenges she had to overcome, this woman still had hope for a better future. She was passionate about politics and believed that if enough people came together, we could make positive change in our communities. Her story was a reminder to me that there are so many people out there who are struggling and who are relying on our elected officials to make a difference in their lives.

It's stories like these that make me believe in the power of democracy and the importance of fighting for the rights and well-being of all members of our society. As a candidate for office, it's essential to hear these personal stories and to take them to heart as we work to create policies that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our constituents.
All the jokes I find very funny are in my Native Language which is Amharic
It's understandable to feel frustrated with the lack of compromise in policymaking, as it can lead to gridlock, dysfunction, and disappointment for the American people. Without compromise, progress can be stalled, and the needs and interests of different constituencies can be ignored or neglected.

However, it's also important to recognize that compromise is not always easy to achieve, especially in a polarized political environment where ideological differences can be deep and entrenched. Some policymakers may feel that compromising on their core principles or values would be a betrayal of their constituents or beliefs.

Nonetheless, compromising is often necessary to achieve any meaningful progress in policymaking. By finding common ground, policymakers can bridge differences, balance competing priorities, and create policies that are more durable and sustainable in the long run. Moreover, compromise can help build trust and goodwill among policymakers, which can foster collaboration and more productive policymaking in the future.

Overall, policymakers must be willing to engage in respectful dialogue, prioritize the public good over partisan interests, and uphold democratic values and norms. It's crucial to recognize that policymaking is not a zero-sum game, and that all stakeholders have a role to play in shaping the policies that affect their lives. By promoting compromise and collaboration, policymakers can create policies that reflect the diversity and complexity of American society and promote the common good.
As a progressive Democrat, I believe that the power of the House to originate revenue-raising bills is a critical tool in our efforts to build a more equitable and just society. If elected to the House, I would prioritize using this power to implement a range of progressive policies aimed at closing income and wealth inequality, addressing climate change, and ensuring access to quality healthcare and education.

First and foremost, I would work to raise revenue in a way that is fair and equitable. This means advocating for a progressive tax system that asks the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share, closing loopholes that allow corporations to avoid paying taxes, and implementing a financial transactions tax to raise revenue from Wall Street.

Secondly, I would prioritize using revenue-raising bills to invest in infrastructure projects that will create jobs, address the climate crisis, and ensure that communities have access to clean air and water. This means investing in clean energy, improving public transportation, and upgrading our aging infrastructure.

Finally, I would prioritize using revenue-raising bills to invest in our social safety net. This means expanding access to affordable healthcare and education, increasing funding for affordable housing, and strengthening social security and other programs that provide a safety net for those who need it most.

Overall, I believe that the power of the House to originate revenue-raising bills is an essential tool for advancing a progressive agenda that promotes economic and social justice. I'm committed to using this power in a way that benefits all Americans, not just the wealthy few, and I look forward to fighting for these priorities if elected to the House.
Yes, I believe that the U.S. House should have investigative powers, but it is essential that those powers are not abused for political gain. Unfortunately, in recent years, both parties have been guilty of using investigative committees to go after their political opponents, rather than conducting legitimate investigations into wrongdoing.

When the GOP has control of the House of Representatives, they often spend more time investigating their political opponents than they do on actual legislating. This can create a sense of political witch-hunt, which does not serve the American people well. When Democrats are in control, they do spend more time on legislating, but investigations are still part of the picture.

I believe that we need to focus on using our investigative powers to uncover real violations and crimes, not to pursue political witch-hunts. We should spend more time legislating and less time on investigations that are not grounded in evidence.

Investigations can be a useful tool for holding those in power accountable and rooting out corruption, but we need to use them judiciously and ensure that they are not being used to score political points. Ultimately, our priority should be on passing laws and policies that benefit the American people, and investigations should be a tool to achieve that goal, rather than an end in themselves.

Campaign website

Kifle’s campaign website stated the following:

POLICIES AND VISIONS!
Here are my policies and visions: as a progressive candidate for Congress, I am committed to fighting for a fairer and more just society. I believe in Medicare-for-All, a living wage for all workers, and policies that combat climate change. My mission is to build a government that works for all Americans, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

MEDICARE - FOR - ALL
I believe that healthcare is a basic human right, and that no one should have to choose between paying for their medical bills and putting food on the table. That's why I am committed to fighting for Medicare-for-All. We need a healthcare system that works for all Americans, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

I care about Medicare-for-All because I know firsthand how difficult it can be for families to afford healthcare in this country. As a progressive candidate for Congress, I am committed to making sure that every American has access to quality, affordable healthcare. We need a system that prioritizes people over profits, and that's what I will fight for in Washington.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
As a progressive candidate for Congress in California, I am deeply committed to addressing the housing crisis that is affecting so many families in our state. We need to take bold action to ensure that every Californian has access to safe, affordable housing. It's time for us to invest in our communities and build a future where everyone has a place to call home.

I care about affordable housing in California because I know that the high cost of living is driving families out of our state and tearing communities apart. As your representative in Congress, I will fight for policies that make housing more affordable and accessible, including expanding affordable housing programs, protecting renters' rights, and increasing funding for affordable housing development. Together, we can build a better future for all Californians.

GREEN NEW DEAL
I'm running for Congress as a progressive because I believe that we need bold action to combat the urgent threat of climate change. That's why I care deeply about the Green New Deal, which offers a visionary plan for tackling this crisis while creating millions of good-paying jobs and investing in communities that have been left behind for too long.

I'm committed to fighting for a Green New Deal because I believe that we have a moral obligation to protect our planet for future generations and to build a more just and equitable society in the process. Together, we can make the Green New Deal a reality and create a better future for all.

GUN REFORM
As a progressive candidate for Congress, I'm committed to fighting for common-sense gun reform that will keep our communities safe. I care deeply about this issue because I've seen firsthand the devastating impact of gun violence on families and communities. We can't continue to stand by and watch as senseless tragedies occur again and again. It's time for us to take action and implement policies like universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, and red flag laws that will help prevent gun violence before it happens.

I believe that we can respect the Second Amendment while also protecting the safety and well-being of all Americans. With your support, we can make gun reform a reality and create a safer, more secure future for everyone.

DISABILITY RIGHTS
As a progressive candidate for Congress and someone born with muscular dystrophy, I am committed to fighting for the rights of people with disabilities. I know firsthand the challenges that come with navigating a world that isn't always built with our needs in mind. That's why I believe it's crucial that we fight for accessibility, equality, and inclusion for all people with disabilities.

We need to strengthen the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensure that people with disabilities have access to affordable healthcare and long-term services and support, and promote employment opportunities that enable people with disabilities to fully participate in the workforce. Disability rights are human rights, and I'm committed to being a champion for this important cause. Together, we can build a more inclusive and equitable society that works for everyone, regardless of ability.

STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS
As a progressive candidate for Congress, I believe that education is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy few. That's why I'm committed to fighting for student loan forgiveness for all Americans. Our current student loan system is broken, burdening millions of borrowers with unmanageable debt that prevents them from achieving their dreams and contributing fully to our economy. Student loan forgiveness is not only a moral imperative, but it's also an economic necessity.

It will stimulate the economy, free up money for families to invest in their futures, and create a more equitable society where everyone has a fair shot at success. I care deeply about this issue because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue higher education without the crushing weight of debt holding them back. With your support, we can make student loan forgiveness a reality and build a brighter future for all.

IMMIGRATION REFORM
As an immigrant from Ethiopia and a progressive candidate for Congress, I know firsthand the struggles that come with navigating our current immigration system. That's why I care deeply about immigration reform. I want to fight for a fair and humane system that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals, and that creates a better future for all Americans, regardless of their background.

VOTING RIGHTS
As an Ethiopian-American and a progressive candidate for Congress, I understand firsthand the importance of democracy and freedom. Our democracy and freedom are under attack from Republicans more and more every day, and that's why I care deeply about voting rights. I want to fight for fair and accessible elections that empower all Americans to participate in our democracy, including our fellow citizens in U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands who deserve the right to vote.

It's time to protect our democracy and ensure that every voice is heard, and that's why I strongly believe that we need to make voting day a national holiday. I'm committed to fighting for voting rights and will be a strong advocate for fair and accessible elections in Washington.

POLICE REFORM
As a progressive candidate for Congress, I am honored to have the opportunity to serve my community and fight for a better future. One of the most pressing issues facing our nation today is police reform.

That's why I am committed to ending qualified immunity, establishing an independent federal oversight commission, and reducing police officers' responsibilities.

I believe that every person deserves to feel safe and protected in their community, and we must work together to achieve that goal. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a voice for change and to fight for a fairer, more just society.[2]
