I am real estate attorney, investor and Adjunct Professor of Business Law at FAU with nearly 30 years of experience in real estate and business law and I have been honored to represent the people of Boca Raton as your Councilman for the past 3 years. My family and I have lived in Florida for over 20 years, and over the last 17 years raised our children in Boca Raton. More than 15 years ago I started my own company, infusing sustainability into underperforming commercial real estate in order to reposition it; and at the same time focus on small business creation and growth. Aptly named the Greenhouse, this company has grown national, but also connected me with the larger business community in a way that over time, helped me learn the issues that are important to the community in Boca; attracting and retaining talent, affordable housing, traffic mitigation, ease of business permitting. After joining the Community Advisory Panel and the Bicycle and pedestrian committee for several years, I further learned about issues related to park, school and religious safety, development and traffic issues, bike and ped safety and strategic projects to improve the El Rio trail and bike to school opportunities; just among a few of the issues that face Boca Raton Residents.
  • Public & Life Safety remains a key issue and is the backbone of good local government. Our current police station is outdated, not impact rated, and too small for our current needs. Accordingly, we have asked the voters to approve funding for a new larger facility that will meet the needs of our city and the new challenges city's face with crime (cybercrime, forensics, etc.). Investing in this resource and continued investment in our Fire Department is critical to providing safety and quality services given that there are more than 20,000 emergency calls made to the city of Boca Raton each year.
  • Smart Growth remains a key issue as we continue to consider quality projects to responsibly grow without impacting services and without adverse effects to traffic. As such, we are deploying AI traffic signals in multiple locations in the city, beginning with our downtown, to more efficiently manage traffic flow. We are also working with the county and state government officials to improve the roads and trails for those roads that are not controlled by the city; securing funding for an underpass at El Rio Trail, New street patterns and bike lanes downtown on Federal Highway, and soon to occur improvements to AIA including wider bike lanes to make it safer for cyclists.
  • Infrastructure is important to every city, and In Boca Raton in addition to replacing sections of pavement and pipes every year through our iSIP program, we are now looking at flood control improvements, and sea wall replacements, in critical areas of the city. This will be a multi year comprehensive analysis and replacement program and it needs to begin now to keep up with canals, bridges, and sea walls which are getting older.
I am passionate about affordable/attainable housing because I have seen first hand the issues Boca business's face about finding and retaining workers. Boca is largely built out, so I appreciate that massive unit increases are simply not physically possible, it is more that as properties redevelop in Boca, if they will include housing, that we must require some of these units to be at an attainable level so our tech workers, cops, fireman, teachers and nurses can live somewhat close to the place they work in. Reduced commute times reduce total overall household costs, and reduce traffic. Creating mixed use zones in strategic areas of the city, not just downtown, will be important too, to reduce traffic.
I have been fortunate to be endorsed by the Boca Raton Police Officers Union (FOP35), The Boca Raton Firefighters and Paramedics Union, The Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce (BLU-PAC), and the Hispanic Voters Association, in addition to many individuals.
