Margaret O'Brien (Connecticut)
Margaret O'Brien was an Independent Party candidate for at-large representative on the Waterbury Public Schools Board of Education in Connecticut. O'Brien was defeated in the at-large general election on November 7, 2017.
O'Brien was a 2014 Independent candidate for District 73 of the Connecticut House of Representatives. She ran unsuccessfully for an at-large seat on the Waterbury Board of Education in 2013.
Biography
O'Brien earned an Associate's degree in business administration from Mattatuck Community College in 1979, her B.S. in Upper Management and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from American InterContinental University. Her professional experience includes working as a Consultant and President of Sillari Advocacy for Connecticut's Special Needs Children since 1996, classroom volunteer and President of the Woodrow Wilson PTO.[1][2]

Five of 10 seats on the Waterbury Public Schools Board of Education in Connecticut were up for at-large election on November 7, 2017. Four incumbents won re-election: Karen E. Harvey (D), Juanita Hernandez (D), Charles L. Stango (R), and Thomas Van Stone Sr. (R). Newcomer Melissa Serrano-Adorno (D) also won. Republican challenger Zaida Martinez lost, as did Margaret "Maggie" O'Brien, Danielle Albert, and Shakirah Howard, who were endorsed by the Independent Party.[3][4]

Elections for the Connecticut House of Representatives consisted of a primary election on August 12, 2014, and a general election on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 10, 2014. Incumbent Jeffrey J. Berger was unopposed in the Democratic primary and defeated Francis J. Caiazzo, Jr. (I) in the general election.[5][6]

O'Brien lost election to the board as an independent against nine other candidates on November 5, 2013. She ran as part of an Independent Party ticket including James K. Russell and Kimberly A. Sidoti referred to the Row C coalition due to the slate's placement on the ballot.
