Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Busch's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Balance Budget & Pay Off Debt: There is a basic financial rule all individuals, families, and businesses must follow. We all know it! Why does government get a pass on this fundamental economic principle? It is reckless and irresponsible to spend more than you have. Congress has been completely ineffective and is fully responsible for not passing a balanced budget to date. In fact, they just suspended the debt limit through 2017, with another 80 Billion in guaranteed spending! This amendment is critically important now if we have any chance of fixing our broken financial system and of saving our country from total economic collapse.
  • Congressional Rotation: We have seen the results of long-term Congressional politicians. Most of them seem to care more about their careers than what is best for the country, becoming more out of touch with each successive term. All human beings are flawed and make poor choices, so the temptation of cronyism, corrupt deal-making and corporate welfare increases with the number of years in office. Benjamin Franklin cautioned, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom, as nations become corrupt and vicious they have more need of masters.” It’s time to put an end to the profession of “career politician” and impose limits on how many times a member is allowed to seek re-election.
  • Stop Political Cronyism: We need deterrents to stop government from picking winners and losers. Also, we need to put an end to unelected federal employees writing laws and must create a policy that allows greater Judicial oversight to keep judges from ruling on their political views instead of the merit of the law. These progressive actions over-turn the will of hundreds of millions of Americans and are completely contradictory to the belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law. A good example of this over-reach would be Obamacare. Government now makes your buying decisions for you regardless of whether you want it or not. And if you don’t, you can be penalized.
  • Tax Reform: We cannot turn around our sluggish economy and pay off the national debt unless we cut taxes and simplify the tax code to unleash the power of the U.S. economy. History shows if you cut taxes the economy grows, which in turn creates more jobs, higher wages and more money into the Treasury…It’s basic economics. When people have more money they spend and invest more into the economy. When government takes more money, it creates more debt. Hardworking Americans pay enough in taxes today. It doesn’t matter if you are wealthy or in the middle class, higher taxes result in people and businesses not buying goods and services, not investing and saving for the future.
  • Strengthen National security: We live in a time when many political groups, countries and crime organizations have publicly stated that their goal is to kill Americans and destroy our country. We would be naive and foolish not to believe them and not build up our homeland defense. Our future and way of life depends on a strong national security program that includes securing the borders, fixing our immigration process, strengthening our military, energy independence and updating and protecting our national electrical grid network. All of our national security decisions should be made for the purpose of protecting freedom and improving the American way of life.
