I am the product of the communities and schools I seek to represent and serve. I immigrated to United States from El Salvador at the age of 6 with my mother and two older sisters. I attended LAUSD schools from the time I arrived in this country in1986 until my high school graduation in1998. After high school, I began my college studies and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. In 2003, I was deployed to the Middle East as part of combat operations into Iraq. Upon my return from military service, I resumed my college studies and obtained a bachelors degree in economics from California State University Northridge. In 2005, I began my teaching career. As I began my teaching career, I enrolled in graduate school and earned a masters degree in multicultural education from National University.

Currently, I am an LAUSD high school Spanish teacher with 17 years of teaching experience in Title I schools. I am a proud parent of two girls who attend LAUSD schools; one in high school and the other in elementary.

I am running for school board because I believe that no child should have to leave their community in search of a quality education. As board member, I will work to ensure that all of our district schools, especially those in our most vulnerable communities are funded and equipped with the adequate resources to provide the best educational opportunities for our children.
  • I believe our districts schools must play a bigger role in ensuring that all our children are equipped with the sense of purpose and worth that will empower and inspire them to contribute positively to our communities. My work as board member will focus on supporting a meaningful approach to the expansion of our Community Schools. I will work to ensure that our most vulnerable students and their families truly have access to the wrap-around resources and support they need to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • My work as board member will also focus on ensuring the adequate funding of our early education programs and special education centers. We must invest in safe, loving, and nurturing early education programs that create the meaningful learning experiences for our children to find success through education as they grow older. We must fully fund special education centers and programs that provide for our students with special needs the adequate resources and support they need to achieve their full potential.
  • If our schools are to be successful at reaching our students and communities, our work must seek to empower not only our students but also their parents and teachers as partners in the decision-making process. As board member, I will work to create the meaningful opportunities that allow our parents and teachers to confidently engage our leadership and contribute to finding the solutions which ensure the academic, social, and emotional success of our students.
Among the areas of public policy that I am most passionate about is the funding of public education at the federal, state, and local levels. Public education is a constitutional guarantee and our most powerful weapon in combating poverty. Therefore, we must ensure that federal and state policy is used to empower and safeguard it from efforts that seek to weaken and undermine its efficacy, especially in our most vulnerable communities.
