I spent 31 years in HISD as a math teacher, soccer coach, and Middle School and High School Principal. Over nearly two decades of leadership, I have seen firsthand what works in schools, what doesn't, and what resources our students need to thrive. I'm ready to bring that experience and that leadership to serve the families of Houston.
  • We must rebuild trust with the community. Strong schools are built on local voices, local leadership, and local accountability. I will listen to the community and make transparent, fiscally responsible decisions rooted in shared priorities.
  • Replace one-size-fits-all strategies with student-centered systems Right now, students are treated as data points, and test prep has become the priority. Great schools personalize learning and see each student as unique.
  • Restore stability to the district In two years, HISD has lost thousands of educators. That’s a culture problem. Our students deserve consistent leadership and teachers who are trusted and valued.
I have dedicated my professional life to public education.
When I was young and thought I knew everything about how the world worked, I would often disagree with my dad. And as I grew to understand him and how he went about making decisions in his life, I learned about work ethic, about how you consider other people's feelings, and about how to fully act with integrity.

I am grateful to still enjoy time with my dad and laugh alongside him as we reflect on past learning experiences. I strive to make choices aligned with the example he offered, and, perhaps most of all, allow myself the grace to make mistakes and learn from them.
In order to build a relationship of any kind, it first starts with being present. In my two decades of leadership experience, I have had a reputation for being both visible and approachable. I believe that when you listen more than you speak, and learn the personal stories of a family, neighborhood, or larger community, then you can best serve as an advocate.

Additionally, when you are present and honest about what may be possible, then parents will respect the decisions that you make.
