Multnomah County voter's pamphlet

Rosen provided the following statement for the Multnomah County voter's pamphlet:

When my kids started school at Llewellyn Elementary, I did what a lot of parents do. I got involved as a volunteer, in the classroom and on the PTA. I kept it up at Sellwood Middle School and Cleveland High.

But something else happened 15 years ago. I grew frustrated with the legislature’s failure to support our public schools. So I joined with parents from all over Oregon and went to Salem.

We didn’t get everything, but we made a difference. I realized that the future of our schools was up to us. Since then I’ve been:

  • Oregon PTA Children’s Advocate of the Year
  • Cofounder, Portland Parents Coalition
  • Community Organizer/Volunteer on six PPS measures to

fund teachers, classrooms, and upgraded schools

  • Parent Leader of Help Out Public Education (HOPE)

Together we got results. We have more teachers, longer school days, and safer buildings. We gave parents a stronger voice, put a sharper focus on the achievement gap, and held the administration accountable when they were off track.

MY COMMITMENT TO YOU:

  • I’ll be a voice for parents and students – especially kids who need extra help to succeed.
  • I’ll fight for lower class sizes and a rigorous curriculum.
  • I’ll use my management experience to ensure our tax dollars are well spent, and focused on classrooms, students, and teachers.
  • I’ll never forget how central public schools are to our community.[3]
