I am originally from Maryland and earned a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, College Park. I worked in various immunology labs prior to earning a M.S. in Secondary Education from Old Dominion University. I have been working for WCPSS in various teaching capacities since 2017 at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. I have worked as a sub, Instructional Assistant, middle school math and science teacher, high school teacher of Earth & Environmental Science and Biology, Cross-Categorical Kindergarten teacher, and recently a Virtual Academy 5th grade teacher. Having worked in these various positions and at different schools throughout Wake County has led Monica to have a unique perspective in understanding the needs of students and teachers at every level.
  • Curriculum: Curriculum transparency with parental involvement; purging elements of Critical Race Theory & social activism from the curriculum; back to the basics in improving literacy, writing, and math skills
  • Finances: Financial accountability & transparency; cutting back and/or eliminating departments & department heads; ensure Covid funds address learning loss
  • Safety & Security: implementing a comprehensive & consistent county-wide discipline policy; having at least 1 School Resource Officer in every school at all times; safeguarding & fortifying all schools to ensure maximum security
The area of public policy that I am most passionate about is ensuring the financial stewardship of the taxpayers' money. Too often the government misuses taxpayer funds or spends more than necessary. Fiscal responsibility is paramount for every elected official.
