The New York Canal System and the Federal Government, Amendment 6, also known as Proposed Amendment No. 6, was on the ballot in New York on November 3, 1959, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. This measure empowered the legislature to lease or transfer the state's barge canal system to the federal government for inclusion into the national system of inland waterways.[1]
