Three seats on the North East Independent School District board were up for general election on May 10, 2014. Incumbent Edd White triumphed over challenger Bob Coster in the District 2 race. District 3 candidate Sandi Wolff and District 7 incumbent Brigitte Perkins were elected by default, as both were running unopposed.[1]

North East Independent School District is located in Bexar County, Texas. The county seat of Bexar County is San Antonio. The county's population was 1,714,773 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.[2]

Demographics

Bexar County underperforms in comparision to the rest of Texas slightly in terms of higher education attainment, median income and poverty rate. The 2010 U.S. Census found that 25.9 percent of Bexar County residents over 25 years old held undergraduate degrees compared to a 26.3 percent rate for the state of Texas. Bexar County had a median income of $49,141 in 2010 compared to $51,563 for Texas. The poverty rate for Bexar County was 17.8 percent in 2010 compared to a 17.4 percent rate for the rest of the state.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The North East Board of Trustees consists of seven members elected by district. They serve four-year terms. There was no primary election and a general election took place on May 10, 2014, for three seats.[3]

A member of the board must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district. An individual seeking office must be a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the district for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.[4]
