Patrick J. O'Shea was a judge of the 18th Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to this position on November 6, 2012, to fill the seat vacated by Perry R. Thompson.[1] He was removed from the bench in 2019.[2]

Biography

O'Shea received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. O'Shea's professional experience includes working as a special assistant state's attorney in DuPage County, and as special and general counsel to the Illinois Republican Party. He also worked as the DuPage County Board vice chairman and as a private practice attorney prior to his judicial election in 2012.[3]

O'Shea was elected to the 18th Circuit Court on November 6, 2012, to fill the seat vacated by Perry R. Thompson and held at the time by Robert Gibson. He defeated Alice Wilson with 54.8 percent of the vote. Prior to that, he defeated incumbent Judge Gibson and Associate Judge Brian R. McKillip in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012, receiving 42 percent of the vote.[1][4]

O'Shea was arrested on October 13, 2017, for reckless conduct for an incident in September where a gun was fired in his residence. The residents of another unit in O'Shea's building found a hole in their wall and a bullet in their unit. O'Shea was released on a $5,000 bond and appeared in court on November 15, 2017. Judge Keith Johnson scheduled his trial for January 4, 2018. Upon his arrest, O'Shea was suspended from his judicial duties.[5][6] O'Shea was acquitted of the charges in 2018. The Illinois Courts Commission removed O'Shea from the bench in 2019, citing "multiple instances of misconduct."[2]
