Patti Serrano is an Arizona native who graduated from CUSD's own Hamilton High in 2001. After starting her family, Patti made it a priority to continue her family's legacy in CUSD. Patti has been a CUSD Mom for over 9 years now. Her family is rooted and invested in our District. She has family who has taught in CUSD for over 24 years, family who has worked as Staff, and all of her local family’s children have gone through CUSD schools. She is a proud public school Mom grounded in our CUSD community.

As a CUSD Mom, Alum and community member, Patti has distinct ties to our District. Ties that continually remind her of how much she loves our District, chooses it everyday and wants to always do better by our schools. This is why you will consistently catch Patti in different parts of our District listening and learning to bring the best representation she can to our board. As a Mom, she 'gets it' and is ready to bring representation to CUSD that prioritizes the best Whole Child education we can offer at all of our schools; for our children, educators, staff and community at large.

  • Supporting Whole Child Education: In order to help our students achieve full academic potential, we must recognize and respond to our children’s whole well-being that includes academic, social-emotional, mental and physical health needs. Patti firmly believes in meeting our students where they are and acknowledging one cannot learn to the best of their ability if their basic needs are not met. This requires courage and a willingness to evolve and truly invest in this holistic approach to produce positive outcomes in our schools, prepare tomorrow’s workforce, attract economic investment, and foster innovation.
  • Listening: Listening is the base of Patti’s campaign. That's why you will continually find Patti out in our community listening, learning and becoming as informed as we can on what our CUSD residents and key stakeholders have to share. As we learn more, our service and representation will be better informed. This starts with those directly impacted by School Board decisions: our students!
  • Data Driving: There exists meaningful information and lessons behind numbers to help the District improve. Coming from a background in academic research, Patti plans to request and review reports beyond budgets and collaborate to prioritize working towards better together. Examples include analyzing and addressing: CUSD sub-groups across employment; disciplinary action events across school sites; demographics and academic achievement across school sites; teacher retention rate; the (missing) feedback loops on any parent, educator and staff surveys.
School funding: it's no secret that Arizona's public schools are sorely underfunded. We consistently rank at the bottom for per pupil and overall spending - and we're now suffering a teacher shortage in relation to this fact. This serious underfunding requires creative and thoughtful responses from our communities in an attempt to do better and keep our schools running: local overrides and bonds help achieve this and in part, fill existing gaps, while we consistently work to advocate for the funding we need from the state legislature. As long as we continue to be underfunded and falling at the bottom nationwide, our schools will continue needing such alternative streams of investment and support - which is why they traditionally pass with strong support. Our communities want our public schools open, running and funded. Patti is proud to have been asked to be a CUSD override social media influencer with our last successful override efforts, and, she is proud to have a strong history of advocating for the proper funding our schools deserve in order to produce the best education we can and provide all of our students with the opportunity to reach their full potential - excellence.
Serving our School Boards is very much a job in management and community representation. Patti comes with clear project management and community advocacy receipts. Patti directly knows what it takes to coordinate and bring stakeholders together to accomplish goals and outcomes in the best interest of a community.

As a project director and coordinator in academic research and education advancing children’s health, Patti's professional skills and current experience directly translate to this job (hiring; developing/approving /monitoring budget; setting salaries; approving purchases; developing/approving policies; adopting curriculum).

Above all, Patti sees this role as one of community commitment and listening. Her strong ties to stakeholders and leaders will be of great benefit to serving our School Board. Patti has already held a Student Roundtable with current student leaders. She if often out connecting with different parts of our community to best represent across stakeholders (meeting with students, families, educators, the business community and more). Patti looks to expand and strengthen her already present personal ties to pro-education advocacy groups. She is ready to lead as a School Board Member.
