Paul Coyne, Jr.
Paul Coyne was a 2014 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 24th Congressional District of California.
Biography
Coyne earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1987. He then receive his master's from San Diego State University in 1988. Coyne also holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He served in the U.S. Army reserves and was honorably discharged in 1986.[1]

Coyne stated the following about his political philosophy in a submission to Ballotpedia:[2]
"I am a fiscally conservative, pro-business Democrat who hopes to achieve 5 major objectives while serving in Congress:
- Implement the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles deficit-reducing proposals
- Enact a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution
- Enact a Term Limit Amendment for members of Congress
- Save Social Security and Medicare through restructuring the programs
- Reduce military spending to 2006 levels"

Coyne ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent California's 24th District. Coyne was defeated in the blanket primary on June 3, 2014.[3]
