Paul Coyne was a 2014 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 24th Congressional District of California.

Biography

Coyne earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1987. He then receive his master's from San Diego State University in 1988. Coyne also holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He served in the U.S. Army reserves and was honorably discharged in 1986.[1]

Coyne stated the following about his political philosophy in a submission to Ballotpedia:[2]

"I am a fiscally conservative, pro-business Democrat who hopes to achieve 5 major objectives while serving in Congress:

  1. Implement the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles deficit-reducing proposals
  2. Enact a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution
  3. Enact a Term Limit Amendment for members of Congress
  4. Save Social Security and Medicare through restructuring the programs
  5. Reduce military spending to 2006 levels"
