Paul Jacobson is Judge No. 3 for the Northwest Judicial District Court, Number 10, in North Dakota. He was appointed to the court by Governor Jack Dalrymple on July 15, 2013.[1]
Jacobson's appointed term ended on January 1, 2017. He won election to a full six-year term in 2016.
Biography
Jacobson received his undergraduate degrees from North Dakota State University and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Before his appointment to the Northwest Judicial District Court, Jacobson spent 20 years serving as an assistant disciplinary counsel and disciplinary counsel for the North Dakota Supreme Court and the Judicial Conduct Commission. Jacobson was also previously a partner with the firm of Bjella, Neff, Rathert, Wahl and Eiken, P.C. before his time with the North Dakota Supreme Court. Prior to being a partner, Jacobson served in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1974 to 1979.[1]

There were 23 North Dakota District Court seats up for election in 2016, all of the seats appeared on the June 14, 2016, primary ballot. There were four contested races that appeared on the ballot for the general election on November 8, 2016. Two of the contested races had open seats where the sitting judge did not seek re-election.

2010
Jacobson ran for Seat 1 on the Northwest Judicial District Court to replace the retiring Gerald H. Rustad in 2010. He lost to Josh B. Rustad, receiving only 46.47% of votes to Rustad's 53.32%.[2]
