Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. Education
Irons received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola University and her J.D. in public interest law from Tulane University Law School.[2]
Career
Irons began her career as a business consultant and lawyer. She started the Paulette Irons Law Firm in 1992. In November of 1994, she joined the Louisiana State Senate, where she served until her judicial election in 2004. During her time as a senator, she continued to work as a private practice lawyer part-time.[2][3]
