As a former educator and community advocate for victims of domestic violence, I recognize the importance of giving folks a hand up in life. We can accomplish this by focusing on policies that prioritize education, healthcare and fair taxation. My focus will be on improving the quality of life for the people of Pennsylvania, particularly in rural areas like mine that have experienced neglect by our elected officials in Harrisburg. All legislation but be crafted with the best interests of people in mind. I stand for protecting freedoms, the fair treatment of everyone, and upholding our democracy. Bureaucracy in government has caused unnecessary red-tape, unfair taxation and neglected to address the everyday needs of people. I am solutions focused and believe that we should start putting people first.
I try to fully understand an issue before forming an opinion. I am deeply committed to giving weight to all perspectives.
To lead with compassion, honesty, and integrity. A representative is accountable to her constituents and her main focus should be on serving them.
I would like to leave office knowing that I helped improve the quality of life for the people of Pennsylvania. Mine will be one of relentless advocacy.
My first job was as a Montessori Teacher. I volunteered nights for local EMS. I worked in the education field for 15 years later as a programs coordinator and teacher trainer.
Two years after relocating to PA, my eldest son (11 at the time) was diagnosed with terminal brain stem cancer. We learned first-hand that Pike County doesn't have a hospital or local cancer treatment center for children. My son spent the last 30 days of his life in a hospital in NJ away from family and friends. This was not the end of life care that he wanted or deserved. This was a terrible time in my life and for my family, and now, 10 years later, we are still no closer to having a hospital for the hundreds of families facing similar circumstances. This is unacceptable. I'm running because I want to help bring healthcare to this area. We deserve better. Healthcare is a human right.
The ideal relationship would be respectful and cooperative. The branches are intentionally crafted to provide checks and balances and I strongly believe those boundaries must be upheld.
In recent years a wave of extremism has washed over Pennsylvania threatening our public schools, women, and the LGBTQ community. We must stop regressive politics and refocus on the issues that affect our collective quality of life. Divisive National politics is destructive and furthers the neglect of our neighbors.
No. As someone who has always worked directly with families and clients to solve problems I know how important it is to take the time to fully understand an issue before developing a plan. Compassion and critical thinking skills are far more valuable than experience in government. The last thing we need are more bureaucrats who will make deals to further their own personal agenda.
Of course. I enjoy getting to know everyone that I work with. Developing solutions to problems require cooperation and mutual respect.
I was touring a local high school after donating to their school food pantry when a student came up to the teacher I was with and asked her if she could take home one of the bags of groceries at the end of the day. Food insecurity in my district has been on the rise for the past 4 years and as someone who volunteers at a local pantry I've seen the number of new families increase in this year alone. The last thing any child should be worried about while at school is whether or not they will have dinner that night. From children going hungry, to veterans not having access to affordable healthcare and medication and seniors forced from their home due to overly burdensome property taxes, these are the stories that weigh on my heart daily. Knowing about this suffering and not yet being able to help has been the hardest part of my campaign.
I was a registered Independent prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 2010. I changed my voter affiliation so that I could vote in Primary elections. I maintain my Independent mindset when considering policy and value all perspectives. The best solutions are born from initial disagreement.
