Robert Porterfield

Robert Porterfield holds the District 6 seat on the Montgomery county school board in Alabama. He won re-election to the seat by defeating independent Deena Weston in the general election on November 4, 2014. Porterfield won the Democratic primary on June 3, 2014. District 6 includes Carver Elementary, Carver High, Davis Elementary, Fitzpatrick Elementary, Johnson Elementary, McInnis, MacMillan International Academy at McKee and McKee Middle Schools.[1]
Biography
Porterfield is a Montgomery native. He attended Carver High School before earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in mathematics from Alabama State University. He has worked as a research associate in oceanographic studies at the University of Southern Mississippi and in aerospace studies at the University of North Alabama. He briefly worked as a chemist for Koppers Industries before becoming a teacher. Porterfield served as a math and science teacher in Montgomery Public Schools for 33 years and also drove a bus route for the district. He is a member of the deacon, trustee and usher boards at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church, is a member of the benevolent committee and is the chairperson of his neighborhood block campaign. He also volunteers with the adult tutoring program through Trenholm State Technical College. Porterfield is married and has four children.[2]

Robert Porterfield defeated Timothy E. Bass for the District 6 seat in the Democratic primary election on June 3, 2014. He faced independent candidate Deena Weston in the general election on November 4, 2014.[3]
