Smith's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Homelessness
In 2016 there were 1,846 individuals homeless in Fort Worth. Before we can eradicate homelessness in Fort Worth we must identify the each person unique story to unveil their reason for being homeless, circumstantial or chronic. Rod vows to work with agencies dedicated to eradicating homelessness to ensure each agency has the proper funds to continue serve our homeless population. (Photo credit: Star Telegram)

Public Safety
We must understand our role in ensuring our community is safe, we must work together with our Mayor, Chief of Police, and First Responders to ensure that we are all being held accountable to perform our individual duty to SERVE and PROTECT. Rod plans to build a bridge to close the gap between the citizens of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Police Department. Economic Development
We must work hard to create a city where major companies would want to bring jobs to Fort Worth, slow growth is smart growth! Rod vows to work with neighboring cities (ie: Crowley, Benbrook, Everman, Forest Hill) to tap into undeveloped areas that will bring jobs directly to Far South and Southwest Fort Worth.[3]
