Campaign themes (2016)

The statement below is from Rich's campaign website.[3]

America! I believe in equal rights for all. I believe in defending and supporting women's rights and gay rights. I believe in meaningful jobs programs. I believe in a liveable minimum wage, in helping those less fortunate than ourselves, and in protecting the environment.

I believe in access to healthcare for all, and that no one should have to choose between the medication they need or putting food on the table.

I believe higher education should be affordable to all who have the aptitude and desire to attend college.

I believe we have a duty to our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for our country, to provide them with support, quality healthcare, and jobs upon their return to our shores.

As a former Cleveland Police Department Commander, I have witnessed first hand the gun violence problem in our neighborhoods in northeast Ohio and this country. This must be addressed. And, though I am a gun owner and sport shooter, I firmly believe in universal background checks for every gun transaction, whether through licensed firearms dealers or private sales.

I believe we need to close the tax loopholes for corporations and the ultra rich, so that they pay their fair share of taxes. I begrudge no one the fruits of their labor, but I want corporations and individuals alike, to bear their fair share of the tax burden.

Let me be clear about who I am. I can't be bought, I can't be coerced. And I won't be intimidated. I am a reasonable man, but I will not compromise my core principles. I will work toward reasonable solutions to the issues of the day.[4]
