I am a life-long Montanan looking to bring back a "Montana first" policy to our state legislature. I want to bring policies forward that have the average Montanan in mind so that they can continue to enjoy the state without having to worry about being displaced.
  • Bringing more affordable housing to every community
  • Expanding healthcare to cover more people and to include mental healthcare
  • Protecting our state constitution
Some areas of public policy that I am passionate about and would like to help get on the docket as a Legislature member would be setting rent caps so that renters aren't priced out of their homes, taxing those who have second and third vacation homes in the State to use that money in local municipalities so that they can acquire land to build more affordable housing on, making sure that the sales tax from marijuana sales goes toward infrastructure and protecting and attaining more public lands for Montanans to enjoy. I also want to make sure our state constitution is protected so that we can find more ways to protect our environment and uphold our right to privacy, especially when it comes to women's healthcare.
I believe that honesty and transparency are some of the most important principles for an elected official to have. If they aren't transparent, we can't really expect them to be honest. Also, if they aren't transparent with their constituents, those people lose their voice because they can't hold their elected official accountable.
I am honest and hardworking. I believe in showing up and getting the job done and doing it to the best of my abilities. I also believe in being held accountable for the job I am doing and am an open book when asked questions about why I did what I did. I also am a quick learner and have a drive to learn new and different things whenever possible.
I believe the core responsibility of someone elected to the State Legislature is to bring forth Montana first policies that keep the average Montanan at the forefront.
I hope that if I am elected to this office, that I inspire others who have never entered the foray of politics that they too can run for an office and have an impact on their community. I also hope that I can inspire other women and girls to find their voice and use it because it matters that they are seen and heard in all areas of life and politics.
For me, I see the relationship between the governor and state legislature as one where both need to give their all, day in and day out, for the people that they serve. They need to work together to pass smart policies that keep the average Montanan in mind. When we don't serve the average Montanan, we lose sight of what matters to them and therefore what should matter the most to us.
I believe that affordable housing and environmental woes will be some of our greatest challenges over the next decade. We can't expand our state's economy if the average worker can't afford to live here. We also could lose a lot of our seasonal income if environmental issues are addressed and handled. Without tackling those issues, Montana will end up in a lose-lose situation.
As someone who has had little to no previous experience or hands on experience in government and politics, I say no. If we gate keep the offices that are meant to serve us, how can we expect to have the trust of our constituents? We need to be willing to listen to those who have little to no previous experience because they may have some of the best ideas and policies that could have a real and practical impact on the state.
Yes, I believe it is beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. They are not only your peers but also your co-workers. They have opinions that need to be honored and respected and they may have a better way of doing things. Without building relationships with other legislators, I feel that the team wouldn't be doing its job to the best of its ability.
Depending on how this race goes for me, I may consider running for other offices down the road.
Yes, I believe that in some instances we need to reach across the aisle and compromise so that we can make the best decisions for all Montanans.
