I do not plan to be a mayor who only meets with the council and hides from the public. I am a representative of the city's residents and I intend to keep in constant communication with them. While polling residents, I heard several complaints of city officials not wanting to change anything and feed corporations for their own gain. I dream big and enjoy working for change. Sociology and criminal justice are two subjects for which I hold a deep passion. I intend to carry that passion with me into office. Police/Fire: I will foster a more positive relationship between the police and communities through the use of body cameras, educating the public on their rights, and disciplining abusive police officers. The relationship between the Baltimore City Police Department and the community creates a dangerous environment for both, but we can re-establish a positive relationship over time. I am prepared to rehabilitate the entire system if necessary. The fire department will also get a thorough analysis to see where we can make improvements. Drugs: The war on drugs has fostered a violent black market that allows criminals to thrive. The solution begins with decriminalizing them which will reduce the violence that comes with drug crimes. Drugs and addiction should not be an issue for law enforcement but for the health department. Housing: There is a shortage of affordable housing in Baltimore City, yet several houses are empty. Banks have lost millions in the housing market through foreclosures. Many of these houses have been left to deteriorate. As mayor, I plan to work with banks to cut their losses on foreclosed houses and bring them back up to code. Each project will incorporate local businesses and therefore strengthen the city's economy. Homelessness: I will expand homeless programs in the city through the vast amount of housing available. There are several reasons why people are homeless. I want to dissect those reasons and put these people into the programs they need, creating them if they are not available. Business: Bringing jobs/companies back to Baltimore will mean working with small businesses and revising employment and hiring regulations. Education: I want to analyze how it is possible on the city level to improve the curriculum, teaching students practical skills, introducing martial arts to gym classes, and extending the sexual education program's topic of rape and womens' right to say no. With a shortage of volunteers and abundance of youth on the streets, I believe that after school programs run by older/high school students in exchange for resume references/ credentials/community service requirements could be the solution. City Funds: Many of my goals for the city require an increase in funding, but our taxes are already high. I have found several third party options to increase funding without allowing corporations to have the upper hand. For one, our professional sports team members, players, coaches, and owners make millions each year. Although we give them our support, we get little in return. This cannot go on. These are a fraction of the changes I want to make in Baltimore City as mayor but the main part of my job would be to listen to the public and do my part to make Baltimore the city of the citizens.
