April 24, 2019: So far in 2019, U.S. retailers have announced 5,994 store closures. That’s more than the total for all of last year (5,864).[1]
"The flood of store closures will likely continue for quite some time," said Coresight Research CEO Deborah Weinswig.
The growth of online sales “could force up to 75,000 stores to close by 2026,” according to a UBS estimate. That would include “more than 20,000 clothing stores and about 10,000 consumer electronics stores.”[2]
