February 27, 2018: Among parents whose children use a mobile device, 47% are worried that their children might be addicted to the device.[1] According to a Common Sense Media/Survey Monkey survey, 19% are very or extremely concerned that use of the device is damaging to their child’s mental health.
Whatever their concerns, parents see only themselves to blame. Among parents whose children use a mobile device, 89% believe it is the parents’ responsibility to limit a child’s time on the device. Eighty-one percent (81%) believe that parents are also primarily responsible for making sure their children don’t watch inappropriate content on YouTube.
The survey reported that 74% of parents have at least one child under 18 with access to a mobile device. That includes 60% with a child who has their own smartphone or other mobile device.
