July 11, 2024: 220 years ago, on July 11, 1804, one of America’s founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, was fatally shot in a duel with his political adversary, Aaron Burr. The duel took place in Weehawken, New Jersey, and was the result of heightened political tensions between the two, Burr having felt that his public character was insulted by Hamilton after Burr’s defeat in the election for New York Governor.[1]
