March 13, 2019: Seventy-seven percent (77%) of voters believe that America’s political system is badly broken. A ScottRasmussen.com national survey found that just 10% disagree.[1]
In terms of what’s wrong, 18% believe the U.S. Constitution itself is flawed. However, a much larger number—82%—think the problem is that our political leaders are not following the Constitution.
Despite deep concerns about our political system, Americans remain optimistic. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of voters believe that America's best days are still to come.
That combination of pessimism about our political system and optimism about the nation may seem unusual to those who believe politics leads the nation forward. However, 65% of voters believe that just about all positive change in America begins outside of the political system, far from the halls of power in Washington, D.C.[2]
