May 14, 2025: Four hundred and eighteen (418) years ago on May 14, 1607, around 100 colonists from England arrived at what they would call Jamestown in Virginia. The first leader of the colony was Edward Wingfield. Later that year, in December, Captain John Smith and two others would be captured by the Algonquian confederacy. The two others were killed, but Smith’s life would be saved due to Pocahontas, the daughter of Chief Powhatan.[1]
