May 2, 2025: Forty-one percent (41%) of voters say universities with an endowment fund worth more than a billion dollars should be eligible to receive research grants and other funding from the United States government. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found 39% disagree.
The survey also found 36% of universities with billion dollar endowments should be allowed to rely on the federal government’s student loan program to help students pay tuition. However, 48% say these universities should be required to fund student loans out of their own endowment funds.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 21-22, 2025. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
