November 29, 2023: Forty-six percent (46%) of voters believe that TikTok poses either a very serious (18%) or somewhat serious (28%) threat to the national security of the United States. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 35% of voters believe that it poses either a not very serious (23%) or not at all serious (12%) threat to U.S. national security.

The survey also found that voters are evenly split between those who think that TikTok is a tool of the Chinese government (35%), and those who believe it is simply a company that happens to be based in China (35%).

Methodology

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points. The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on November 20, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
