Sheri Smallwood Gilligan
Sheri Smallwood Gilligan (Republican Party) was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 24. She assumed office on August 5, 2015. She left office on January 9, 2023.
Gilligan (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 24. She lost in the Republican primary runoff on June 21, 2022.
Biography
Representative Sheri Gilligan was elected and sworn into the Georgia House of Representatives in 2015 and represents the citizens of House District 24, which includes portions of Forsyth County and the city of Cumming. Gilligan was born in Forsyth County.[1]
Gilligan graduated from the University of Georgia. After, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves, working in the intelligence field.[1]
Gilligan served as a board member of the Bald Ridge Lodge, a home for at-risk boys, serving as secretary for two years. Sheri also served on the executive boards of the Forsyth County Republican Party and the local Tea Party. Gilligan has worked as a substitute teacher in the Forsyth County Schools and taught Nutrition and Diet Therapy as an adjunct instructor at Lanier Technical College.[1]

2015
Sheri Smallwood Gilligan (R), Will Kremer (R), Ethan Underwood (R) and David Van Sant (R) faced off in a special election on June 16.[6] Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters, Smallwood Gilligan and Van Sant, met in a runoff election on July 14, which Smallwood Gilligan won.[7][8]
The seat was vacant following Mark Hamilton's (R) resignation on May 11, 2015.[9]
A special election for the position of Georgia House of Representatives District 24 was called for June 16. A runoff election took place on July 14. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was May 20.[10]

Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Mark D. Hamilton defeated Sheri D. Gilligan in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[11][12][13]
