In the South Carolina Secretary of State election of 2010, held on November 2, 2010, incumbent Republican Mark Hammond defeated Democrat challenger Marjorie L. Johnson. Neither candidate was opposed in the primary election on June 8.

Previous election

Hammond first won election as the state's secretary of state in 2002. During the last election cycle, he was challenged in the state's Republican primary by Bill McKown and defeated him 125,016 (58.8%) votes to 87,744 (41.2%) votes.[1] In the general election contest, Hammond faced Democratic challenger Cheryl L. Footman, winning by 656,661 (61.2%) votes to 415,211 (38.7%) votes.[2]

On November 2, 2010, Mark Hammond won re-election to the office of South Carolina Secretary of State. He defeated Marjorie Johnson in the general election.

March 30 was the deadline for filing nominating signatures. Retired public relations executive Marjorie Johnson (D)[7] ran unopposed, as did incumbent Mark Hammond (R).
