Thomas M. Schippers

Thomas M. Schippers was a judge of the Illinois Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court. He was elected to a newly-created judgeship on this court on November 6, 2012.[1][2] Schippers passed away on September 6, 2019.[3]
Education
Schippers received his undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University in 1984 and his J.D. degree from the Loyola University School of Law in 1993.[1]
Career
Schippers began his career as an associate at the Chicago firm of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, later leaving to serve in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. After a short time with the firm of Salvi & Schostok, he moved to Washington, D.C. to work as special investigative counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary. He held that position from 1998 to 1999, after which he returned to Illinois and joined the Illinois Attorney General's Office. He worked there until 2002. Prior to his judicial appointment, he was a partner of the law firm Dudley & Lake. He was appointed associate circuit court judge in 2007 and was elected a circuit judge in 2012.[1]

Schippers was elected to the 19th Circuit Court, 3rd Subcircuit, on November 6, 2012, defeating Nancy S. Waites with 51.1% of the vote. He was unopposed in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012, after his opponent, Todd Projansky, withdrew from the race.[2][4][5][6]
