Amadon's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
| “ | ECONOMY
Maine's economy has made some slight improvements recently. Over 17,000 net new private sector jobs statewide since Gov. LaPage took over in 2011. We need to improve on this with a larger pro-business presence in the Maine Legislature. The past 2 years has been a battle trying to implement legislation that would make Maine a more business friendly state. I support lessening regulations on businesses, improve tax incentives, right to work legislation and working to lower healthcare and energy costs to allow business to thrive in Maine. The end result is more jobs and a growing economy. EDUCATION My view on education is that it is the key to our future. Our children and young adults need a solid education for a foundation for their life. Education needs to be complete and based from curriculums that work, set up by professional educators with parental input as opposed to untested new fads put together by private organizations and pushed through by government. Yes I'm referring to "Common Core" and the like. There needs to be an in-depth review of the current system to find a way to help students succeed without watering down standards. Not all will be stellar students but the majority should achieve competence in literacy, mathematics, and basic sciences. More control needs to be put back in the hands of parents and local school districts. We also need to investigate ways to control the skyrocketing costs of education at all levels. I find it upsetting that we encourage our young people to go to college only to be saddled with debt of student loans in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to start their lives on their own, and with only marginal chances of good employment. HEALTHCARE This is a hot topic nationwide. With the ever unfolding "affordable care act", and the relentless push by Maine's current Democratic legislative majority, we have seen increasing cost and decreasing coverage like we haven't seen in recent memory. Maine is near the point of critical mass whereby more people are taking from the system than there are putting into it. I believe a logical system combining private insurers, government assistance, tort reforms, tighter regulatory monitoring and efficient use of funds can be worked out for a better system. FREEDOMS and RIGHTS It seems to me that individual citizens are having less and less control over their own lives. Letting the government control us, instead of the other way around. The United States Constitution guarantees it's citizens rights. Our current Federal Government is chipping away at those rights and the State Governments are following suit. I stand for protecting an individual's rights and freedoms. We have had assaults on our freedoms of speech, religion, life, the right to protect one's self, the second amendment, use of personal property and our privacy. These assaults are getting stronger and more frequent. I am ready to fight for the protection of our individual unalienable rights. I will work to defend equal rights for all, not special rights for just a select few. The people of Maine need someone who will work to preserve and regain their rights and freedoms. ABORTION I'd like to take the political spin off this issue. If you’re against abortion they call it Pro Life, if you’re against abortion shouldn't it be called the opposite “Anti-Life”. Instead they call it Prochoice. I am Pro -LIFE and anti-abortion. Creation of human life begins at conception. Innocent life should be protected at any stages. Rape, incest or theoretic medical defect should have no bearing on taking an unborn human life. In rare cases of a decision to "save the mother vs the baby" mother and the family should have the final decision, with input and guidance of trusted medical experts.[2][3] |
