Recall supporters
Organizers said they initiated the recall campaign in response to matters including Cohen and Henkel's handling of a water infrastructure project, mental health, and homelessness in the community, as well as their support for city ordinances involving firearms passed in early 2023.[1]
On the Recall Todd and Heidi website, organizers have said "Cohen has ignored constituents, acted counter to their interests, supported measures that negatively affect citizens' health and safety, ignored factual information when addressing issues, and approved measures that benefit him" and "Henkel has ignored and been condescending towards constituents, acted counter to their interests, supported measures that benefit her, and has been unbecoming of an elected official."[5]
Recall opponents
On the Decline to Sign website, opponents of the recall campaign have said it is "a distraction to the work to provide important infrastructure for Broomfield's future, make housing more affordable, and protect our community with common sense firearm safety measures - including education and background checks that are supported by gun owners."[6]
Cohen gave the following statement to the Daily Camera.[1]

Voters should be most concerned about the original petition the group filed alleging Councilmember Heidi Henkel was “’demonstrably naked’ in a social media post. She was pictured in a hot tub with her husband by her side. This kind of body-shaming and attempt to dictate what a woman can or cannot share reveals a ‘demonstrably sexist’ agenda. Decline to sign and say no to misogyny and this waste of time and money.[7] |
