Three seats on the Tooele County School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Precincts 5, 6 and 7 were up for re-election.

In the Precinct 5 race, challengers Teresa McNeill and Matthew Lawrence faced off since incumbent Karen Nelson did not file for re-election. Lawrence won the open seat. In the Precinct 6 and 7 races, incumbents Carol Jensen and Alan Mouritsen were re-elected without opposition.

Tooele County School District is located in Tooele County, Utah. The county seat is Tooele. Tooele County was home to 61,598 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2012-2013 school year, Tooele County School District was the 12th-largest school district in Utah and served 14,226 students.[2]

Demographics

Tooele County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Utah in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 20.4 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 30.3 percent for Utah as a whole. The median household income was $61,412 compared to $58,821 for the state of Utah. The poverty rate in Tooele County was 8.7 percent compared to 12.7 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Tooele Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms by specific geographic zone. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Three seats were up for election in 2014.[4]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 14, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 20, 2014.[5]
