Biography

Trevor Atkin was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He earned an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in May 1984 and a law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in May 1987. He worked in private practice as a civil litigation attorney for 32 years before being appointed as a judge in 2019.[1]

Judge Atkin is a native Las Vegan, having graduated from Bonanza High School in 1980. He was appointed to his current position of District Court Judge, Department 8, by Governor Sisolak. His current assigned docket is all civil matters/cases, having practiced as a civil trial litigation attorney for 32 years before his being nominated and selected by the Judicial Selection Commission as part of Governor Sisolak's appointment process. Before serving as the District Court Judge, he tried over 30 jury trials and was lead trial counsel in seven reported Nevada Supreme Court decisions. Before his appointment to his current position, he was one of the founding, managing partner of Atkin Winner & Sherrod, overseeing the work of 17 attorneys and roughly 25 staff members. During this time he was independently awarded the highest rating of "Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell and inducted as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates by his peers and judges. Judge Atkin has also served as an adjunct legal instructor with the University of Nevada system from 1994-1996. He also served on the State Bar Fee Dispute Panel, was a trustee with the Nevada Law Foundation, and was a volunteer mentor in the State Bar Mentorship Program for young lawyers.

I have not been rated by a Bar Association, as Bar Associations don't perform this function. However, I have been rated by the nation's premier independent rating publication, Martindale-Hubbell and earned its highest rating of "A-V" which corresponds to a preeminent rating.
To retain my position and give back to the Las Vegas community which has given me and my family everything we have.
