My name is Tyler Brandeburg, and I am running to keep my seat on the Lake County School Board. I am a proud lifelong Lake County resident and graduate of Lake County Public Schools. After graduating from the University of Florida with my Bachelor's Degree in Finance, I returned home to Leesburg and work with Brown & Brown as a Commercial Insurance Advisor. In addition, I serve as President of the Leesburg Lightning, Vice Chair of New Vision for Independence, and Treasurer of the Leesburg High School Booster Club. I also was elected in 2020 to serve on the Lake County Water Authority and did so until June 2022, when Governor DeSantis appointed me to fill a vacant seat on the Lake County School Board. I am running for this position because Lake County Schools afforded me every opportunity to be successful. I want to ensure that the next generation, and my future kids, receive the same chance to excel in and for our community.
  • Recruiting and Retaining the Highest Quality Teachers and Staff
  • School Safety and Security
  • Parent and Community Involvement
One area that I feel I can bring value is in finances and growth planning. Lake County Schools is the largest employer in Lake County, with over 6,000 team members, and manages a budget in FY 2022-2023 of over $1 billion. Therefore, we must not only focus on providing our students every opportunity to achieve a world-class education but also effectively operate the organization to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. It's also no secret that Lake County will continue to experience significant growth over the next decade. Renovating our existing schools and building new ones to meet the demand will be a huge need. I intend to ensure we continue with a pay-as-you-go model and not take on new debt with capital outlay. We have paid down over $150 million over the last several years and need to continue with this approach. By coming together, this community can continue to find innovative and fiscally responsible ways to educate our students and positively impact economic opportunities for our residents.
To hire a Superintendent, to manage the budget, and set policy that helps us achieve our mission to provide every student with individual opportunities to excel.
All residents of Lake County, namely our students, parents, teachers, staff, and community stakeholders.
First and foremost, I believe this position is all about listening and being involved. Since being appointed by Governor DeSantis in June, I have met with the principals of all nine schools in District 2 and countless meetings with District staff, city officials, county officials, unions, community stakeholders, etc. I will always put in the work to know what's going on and make decisions that make a positive impact on our students and community.
I am happy to meet with anyone at any time that has an interest in making our District better. My cell phone number is (352) 348-1630, and my District email address is BrandeburgT@lake.k12.fl.us. Please reach out to me, and we can collaborate on ways to continue improving our messaging, our outreach, and our results.
I believe in wide-ranging experiences and perspectives. If we all look at every situation the same way, we will never improve. I want to recruit the best candidates for our students and ensure each student has someone they can see themselves in and chase their goals.
Lack of Communication. Be present, be involved, celebrate success, and continually find ways to improve opportunities for all.
Understanding of the guidelines and open communication to ask questions and ensure that everyone is on the same page. We must have clear and measurable goals and objectives to help achieve our collective desires for the students of Lake County. We are better together.
Lake County Schools has made huge strides in both College and Career Readiness.

On the College side, we proudly offer programs in AP, AVID, Cambridge AICE, Dual Enrollment, Health Science Collegiate Academy, and are in the process of starting our first IB program at Tavares High School.

On the Career and Technical Education side, we currently offer 29 different programs that engage students in high technology, hands-on courses designed to identify career interests and provide entry-level job skills. Notable programs include Construction, Aviation, EMT, HVAC, Teaching, Criminal Justice, Finance, Nursing, Agriculture, entrepreneurship, etc.
Continuing to work with our local officials and state legislatures to improve the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) Formula. Lake County is the 19th largest school district in FL by student population, yet is approximately 65th out of 67 counties in funding per student. We must do better.
Thanks to the Lake County voter's approval of the School Safety Referendum in 2018:

Every Lake County public school now has one or more sheriff's deputies, police officers, or school safety officers assigned to protect students and staff.

Every school now has a nurse assigned to help students manage their physical and mental health needs.

We are working to identify mental health issues before they escalate and become safety issues by investing in school psychologists, mental health liaisons, and social workers on our campuses.

We created the Lake Success Academy as a short-term alternative to expulsions, the Academy of Lake Hills in two locations to meet longer-term needs, and the Positive Alternative to School Suspension (P.A.S.S.) program for temporary interventions.

In November 2022, Lake County voters will be asked in a referendum to continue their current contributions for

school safety and student mental health services. We must renew this referendum.
I believe that every parent that wants to be involved in their child's education should have the opportunity to do so. We continue to institute new resources at the District and School level to empower parents positively and productively.
