The "Property Tax Fairness" Initiative was an initiated state statute proposed for the Washington ballot on November 8, 2016. Signatures were not filed by December 31, 2015, and the initiative did not appear on the ballot.

The initiative would have decreased regular property tax levies by 25 percent of the total otherwise allowed per year.[1]

Initiative Measure No. 742 concerns property taxes.

This measure would reduce regular property tax levies by 25% of the maximum amount otherwise allowed each year, except for voter-approved levies, and limit annual increases to .5% unless voters approve greater increases.

The ballot summary was as follows:[1]

This measure would, beginning in 2017, reduce regular property tax levies by 25% of the amount otherwise allowed by statute. The reduction would not be cumulative or affect voter-approved levies. It would require that regular property tax increases be limited to .5% per year absent voter approval in the taxing district, and require voter approval for certain exceptions to levy limitations.[2]

Supporters were required to submit at least 246,372 valid signatures per version. If certified, initiatives to the legislature would have been sent to the state House and Senate for consideration. The Legislature would have chosen whether to enact the measure, send it to the 2016 ballot alone, or send it to the ballot alongside an alternative proposition.
