D. Wayne Patton is a judge on the 5th District Court in Colorado. He was initially appointed to the court by Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia (D) on June 4, 2013, and assumed office on July 1, 2013. Patton won retention in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]

Before being elevated to the district court, Patton had served as a judge on the Lake County Court from 2000 until his appointment. He had most recently won re-election to the county court judgeship in 2012. Patton had also been a part-time magistrate in Eagle County.

Biography

Patton received his undergraduate degree from Denison University and his J.D. from the University of Denver.[2]

Colorado held judicial retention elections in 2016. Fifty-eight district court judges sought retention to six-year terms in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Patton was retained to the Lake County Court judgeship in the general election on November 6, 2012, winning 74.30 percent of the vote.[3]

Judicial performance evaluation

The Fifth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance announced its recommendations for judges up for retention in 2012. According to its website, the commission evaluates judges based on the following criteria: integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, and administrative performance.[4]


Judge Patton was recommended for retention by an unanimous vote. [2]
