I currently serve as the Vice President of the BOE. The proud father of five ASD20 graduates, I have been actively involved in the district for 28 years. I have been the Parent Chair of the District Accountability Committee, Co-Chair of the successful bond campaign, and served on several other district and school level committees--all during the time that ASD20 has been Accredited with Distinction for 15 consecutive years..

Professionally, I have been the President and CEO of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, Associate VP of Special Projects for the University of Colorado Foundation, Managing Partner/Owner-Apprentice Personnel, and for 20+ years held leadership positions in the hospitality industry.

Familiar with board governance, I have chaired numerous boards to include the National Homeland Defense Foundation, Colorado Competitive Council, Colorado Springs (CS) Leadership Institute, CS Sports Corporation, Pikes Peak Workforce Center Workforce Development Board and other. I have also been a board director on the United States Air Force Academy Foundation.

Passionate about education, I also serve on the Federal Relations Network for the Colorado Association of School Boards and the Legislative Council of the Colorado High School Activities Association.

Married to Nan who is in leadership development for a major pharmaceutical company and has a MEd. I have a B.S. from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
  • For 28 years, I have stood for academic excellence and student achievement. Recently, parental problems have gotten in the way of student outcomes, which is the essence of board of education work. There is nothing more important than educating children to have the knowledge, skillls and character to be the future citizens of our country. No candidate has more experience than I do in being involved in ASD20, reviewing school objectives (site plans), unified improvement plans and assessment data.
  • Parental engagement and school choice. Education is a team effort. ASD20 needs to remain transparent so that every parent knows what their child is learning and can exercise choice to meet the academic and developmental needs of their children. I have invoked intra-district choice for my kids. I also attended back to school events, read syllabi, developed working relationships with teachers, went online regularly to review my kids' assignments, and was involved at parent/teacher conferences. Parental involvement is a key indicator of student success.
  • Attraction and retention of talented staff. There is a national shortage of teachers in our country. ASD20 needs to genuinely care about its people and compensate them competitively in order to maintain its academic focus and excellence. This cannot be lip service. Board of education actions need to reflect the values and resources that should be directed to where it matters most--our classrooms.
Foremost is education--especially school finance at the state level and IDEA full-funding at the Federal level. I am also passionate about local control as specified in the Colorado State Constitution.
My father, Bill Temby, shaped my life greatly. He was president of his high school class, served in General Patton's 3rd Army in WWII, attended Harvard University and Harvard Medical School on the G.I. Bill, and raised with my mother five strong citizens of this nation.
in 1963, I was six years old when I was dismissed from school early, walked home, and heard Walter Cronkite announce that President Kennedy had died. Thereafter, my family watched Lee Harvey Oswald being shot by Jack Ruby, and then the state funeral. My interest in national politics and love of this country have never wavered.
Student outcomes. Our "ends" statement includes that every student will have the knowledge, skills and character necessary for post-secondary success. All directors should hear the perspectives of families, students, taxpayers and staff and do what is best for the long-term health and success of the district

If a board is not focused on student outcomes and is focused on outside noise, then it is derelict in its duty.
Parents, patrons, guardians, taxpayers, students and staff. I took a vow to represent all constituents and do what's best for all of them. That is what I have done for the past four years and have parlayed my deep, invested knowledge in ASD20 to all of my decision making.

No candidate has more experience and knowledge in ASD20 than I do. I have gotten involved at every level of the district, been in all 40+ schools, and served with all of the constituent groups that I listed above. I am a small part of why the district has been Accredited with Distinction for 15 consecutive years.

I already do and have for four years. I haven't just gotten involved in ASD20 by being a board member. I have served the district for three decades, built meaningful relationships, and governed with all stakeholders' interests front of mind.
I have been a community leader in Colorado Springs for 28 years and have served and led boards at the national, state and local level. My experience can be found at: https://willtembyford20.com/about/

Employers, workforce development professionals, educational institutions, career and technical education institutions, etc. are all groups with whom I already have knowledge of and working relationships.
My individual endorsements can be read via this link: https://willtembyford20.com/endorsements/

Local organizations will be interviewing candidates for endorsement soon.

As it is a violation of our BOE Governing Process Policy 4.10, I am not beholden to or affiliated with any special interest or advocacy group nor do I serve on any staff that might be in conflict with our district.
See above. I co-chaired a successful bond campaign for ASD20 in 2016. We garnered 60% of the vote for a $230 million issue to build new schools, dramatically bolster the security of all of our schools, and work towards repairs to some of our schools in this 60+ year old district.

Students need to be safe and secure in order to be ready to learn. Their facilities must be first rate. Teachers and administrators need to be qualified and trusted. ASD20 is fortunate to have much of this in place in every school.
I will continue to listen to all perspectives, and there are many because of our student population of 26,000. Advocacy groups have meaningful things to say, and they have passion around their feelings and values. I respect that. However, governing for all stakeholders is important for the future of the district, property values for residents, and most importantly guaranteeing good student outcomes.
Simple. Public education has to meet every single child where they're at. It's not optional and our schools are not populated with homogenous student bodies. Student outcomes is what matters. Trusted adults need to partner with families, have the requisite experience and knowledge to teach and administer, and know that their responsibility is to develop the whole child. Post-secondary success, whatever that is, is why we do what we do everyday.

For 25 years, Will has been an engaged parent in Academy School District 20. As a Leader or active participant on the following Committees and Councils, he has gained vast in-depth knowledge about the issues, challenges and trends affecting our parents, students, teachers and the administration.

o Parent Chair, District Accountability Committee (DAC), 2018-Present  -DAC Member, 2014-Present  -Budget Sub-Committee, 2015-2018  -DAC Accreditation Sub-Committee, 2018-Present o Co-Chair, Yes for 3A Citizens Committee, D20 Bond Campaign, 2016 o Growth and Capital Needs Committee, 2015-2016 o Superintendent's Communication Council, 2018-Present o Certified Performance Evaluation Council, 2018-2019 o Rampart High School, School Accountability Committee, 2017-Present o Mountain Ridge Middle School, School Accountability Committee, 2014-2017

As an involved parent of five children who have either graduated from or currently attend D20 schools, Will believes in order to accomplish that goal the following issues should continue to be a priority: o Student Achievement o Safety and Security o Student Emotional and Social Health o Listening and Advocating for Stakeholders (Parents, Educators and Students) o Faculty Recruitment and Retention o Sound Fiscal Management

Will has spent more than 30 years leading both corporate and non-profit organizations and serving on boards at the national, state and local levels. He fully understands the role of boards and believes in giving back to the community.

o Managing Partner/Owner, Apprentice Personnel, 2011-Present o President and Chief Executive Officer, Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, 2000-2007 o Associate Vice President of Special Projects, University of Colorado Foundation, 2007-2009 o Consultant, National Institute of Space, Science and Security Centers, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, 2009 o Chair, National Homeland Defense Foundation Board of Directors

  • Will believes there is nothing more important than educating and giving all students the opportunity to become thoughtful, inquisitive and productive citizens who model respect and civility to others.
  • I am fiscally conservative and a supporter of local control.
  • Setting policy for and listening to nearly 27,000 students, 50,000 parents and 3,000 plus educators and administrators is a significant responsibility and vital to the future of our high-performing district. It takes experience.
I look up to the Founding Fathers of this country. What they wrote and put in place starting with the Declaration of Independence and then the United States Constitution 11 years later is incredible. The fact that his country continues to use their framework and has had a peaceful transition of power for 232 is something that we Americans take for granted.
High character and unquestioned ethics. Represents constituents and not themselves. Transparency and honesty versus making hollow promises.
A director on the Board of Education must have district-wide knowledge and have had children in the district at the K-5, middle school and high school level. I have organizational and board leadership experience over the past 25 years. Overseeing a $250 million district budget requires experience with multi-million dollar budgets. I am the only candidate with the aforementioned experience.
Too many books to narrow down! However, I have enjoyed reading "Team of Rivals" about Lincoln's cabinet during the Civil War, "Sapiens" and "Good to Great".
Setting policy for and listening to nearly 27,000 students, 50,000 parents and 3,000 plus educators and administrators in the largest school district in the Pikes Peak region.
Primarily, the parents and families of the district's students.
I have been a parent in D20 for 25 years and have four graduates and a junior in high school. To be a genuine voice for the over 50,000 parents in D20, it sure helps to have personal experience of kids having gone through K-5, middle school and high school-and those experiences--academically, socially and developmentally are very different. I will always welcome parent feedback.
