One of the seven seats on the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools school board in Virginia was up for special election to a one-year term on November 8, 2016. The Powhatan District seat was up for special election due to an appointment on the board. Mary Minor, the appointed incumbent, did not file to run for the seat, which left it open for a newcomer. Lisa Ownby defeated Dot Matthews to win the seat.[1][2]
