A matite Township General Levy Increase measure was on the May 8, 2012 ballot in the Hematite township which is in Iron County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 39 Approveda
  • NO 12[1]

This measure sought to increase the current levy by a rate of $5 per $1,000 of assessed value for a period of five years in order to further pay for general needs in the township.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the present tax rate be assessed against the taxable property in Hematite Township, Iron County, Michigan, for all purposes be increased as provided by Section 6, Article 9 of the Constitution of the State of Michigan by five (5) mills, $5.00 per $1,000.00 of taxable value for the years 2013 - 2017, all inclusive, the money raised to be used exclusively for general township purposes?
