Jurisdiction

This court holds the following jurisdiction:[1]

The Circuit Court District Division handles misdemeanor and violation level offenses (including motor vehicle matters), small claims, landlord-tenant cases, stalking cases and other civil cases. There are 32 Circuit Court District Division locations around the state.[2]

Selection method

Judges of the New Hampshire District Courts are appointed to serve until they reach the age of 70. When a vacancy occurs on the court, the governor nominates a successor from a list submitted by the New Hampshire Judicial Selection Commission. The executive council must then vote to approve the nomination and make the appointment.[3][4]

District judges are required to be members of the state bar.[3]
