WHEELING, West Virginia: Voters in West Virginia will have their first chance to cast their ballot for the November elections on October 13, 2010. Early voting in the Mountaineer State is set to begin the day after the statewide voter registration deadline of October 12, 2010[1].
Secretary of State Natalie Tennant admits that despite early voting is popular with West Virginians, it has not translated into higher voter turnout. Tennant is projecting a statewide voter turnout of 20 to 30 percent for the November 2, 2010 general election. According to records from the Secretary of State, 1.2 million West Virginians are registered to vote as of September 30, 2010[1].
Early voting in West Virginia until will happen until October 30, 2010. Voters in the Mountaineer State will be voting on a variety of races including the highly anticipated U.S. Senate special election between Democrat Governor Joe Manchin and GOP challenger John Raese[1][2].
