Michelle Gates was a 2016 write-in candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Georgia.[1]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated Georgia's U.S. Senate race as safely Republican. Incumbent Johnny Isakson (R) defeated Jim Barksdale (D), Allen Buckley (L), and Michelle Gates (Write-in) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Isakson defeated Derrick Grayson and Mary Kay Bacallao in the Republican primary, while Barksdale defeated Cheryl Copeland and John Coyne to win the Democratic nomination. The primary election took place on May 24, 2016.[2][3]
