Three seats on the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. While three incumbents were up for re-election, only one ran in the election. Incumbent Michael Messinger won re-election to the Marlboro Township seat unopposed. Samuel Carollo won the Freehold Township unopposed. Incumbent board member Carl Accettola's son, Vincent Accettola, won the Colts Neck Township seat unopposed.[1][2]
About the district
Freehold Regional High School District is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The county seat of Monmouth County is Freehold Borough. In 2013, Monmouth County was home to approximately 629,672 residents, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau in 2014.[3] In 2011-2012 school year, Freehold Regional High School District was the 11th-largest school district by enrollment in New Jersey and served 11,594 students.
Demographics
Monmouth County underperformed in comparison to the rest of New Jersey in terms of education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 40.3 percent of Monmouth County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 35.4 percent for New Jersey as a whole. The median household income for Monmouth County was $84,746, compared to the state average of $71,637. The unemployment rate in the county was 6.6 percent while it was 9.9 percent statewide.[3]

Voter and candidate information
As of the 2014 election, the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education consisted of nine nonpartisan members who were elected to three-year terms for a specific region of the school district. Candidates for the Board of Education must be 18 years old and have resided within the district for at least one year before their election or appointment. There are no term limits.
Candidates were required to submit nominating petitions with 10 signatures to the county clerk by the filing deadline on July 28, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. Voters had to register by October 14, 2014, to vote in the election.[5][6]
