The Mississippi Superintendent of Education is an appointed state executive position in the Mississippi state government. Prior to July 1, 1984, the office of Mississippi Superintendent of Education was an elected position.
The superintendent is the chief administrative officer of the state Department of Education and administers the department according to policies established by the state Board of Education.[1]

The office of the superintendent of education is established by Article VIII, Section 202 of the Mississippi Constitution.[2]
