Four seats on the Central Dauphin School Board were up for election on November 5, 2013. The candidate field was narrowed in a primary election held on May 21, 2013.
Brian Faleshock and Erin Grady ran unopposed and won the two Region 1 seats. Eric Epstein defeated Linda Dallago for the Region 2 seat, while Chris Judd won the Region 3 seat against Jay Purdy.
About the district
Central Dauphin School District covers eastern and central Dauphin County, which is located in central-eastern Pennsylvania. The county has a population of 269,665.[1]
Demographics
The county was consistent with the state averages in education and median household income. According to the 2010 Census, the percentage of residents with a high school degree (88.7%) was slightly higher than the state of Pennsylvania (87.9%) and the percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher was consistent in Dauphin County (27.0%) compared to the state overall (26.7%). The median household income in Dauphin County was $53,771 compared to Pennsylvania's statewide median of $51,651.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Central Dauphin School Board consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board represent certain regions in the district and are elected by voters in those regions. The primary election for the Central Dauphin School Board was held on May 21, 2013 and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Four seats were up for election on November 5, 2013 and the remaining five seats were up for election in November 3, 2015.[3]

What was at stake?
Four seats on the board were up for election in 2013. Incumbents Brian Faleshock, Erin Grady, Linda Dallago, and Chris Judd all sought re-election in their respective districts while new-comers Eric Epstein and Jay Purdy had also entered the race.[5]

Additional elections on the ballot
In addition to the school board race, residents of Dauphin County had statewide, countywide and citywide items on the ballot. They voted on a Judge of the Superior Court in a statewide race. They also voted for attorney general, sheriff, prothonotary, recorder of deeds, controller, and four district judges in a countywide race. There was also mayoral, council, auditor, judge of election, and inspector of election races in various townships and boroughs.[7]
